‘Picture Shows & Petticoats’ DAs5e9 – ‘If you’re really the bigger person, you’re gonna act like it’

10 Mar

Apologies that there are only two episodes of Picture Shows & Petticoats for Downton Abbey season 5. This episode covers our big U.S. finale…the UK Christmas special. It features an appearance by a cuckoo, my dog’s audition for a role on our show, and a lot of giggling over Matthew Goode.

If you’re not following us on Twitter @pspetticoats, you’re really missing out. That’s where the real action heats up during Sunday night Downton broadcasts.

And while you’re following, don’t forget to follow us on Pinterest as well. We don’t have a PS&P user account there — it’s a shared board that Elizabeth and I post to for your period-show pleasure.

Exit questions:

  • What were your favorite moments from season 5?
  • What are your predictions for season 6?
  • Should it be illegal and punishable by near death for people to express any wish for this series to end?
  • Do you prefer to listen to Picture Shows & Petticoats via podcast or video?

And now…drum roll, please…for those of you who have avoided spoilers at ALL costs this year like I did, here’s your reward. You deserve it.

And this.

And this.

See you next January, kiddos!

Those links were awesome! I’m happy to say that Season 5 was one of my favorites by far. It was a lot more substantial and full of great dialogue in every single episode. There was a lot of maturity in some characters (Daisy, Molesley, Lady Rose) and I loved seeing the Dowager Countess show some vulnerability.

Absolutely! I don’t know what we’re going to do without the Dowager in season 7!! Lady Mary’s character practically got left in the dust this season…but toward the end there she seemed to start coming back to her senses. With Rose & Tom (& Sybbie) leaving, there’s a lot of room in the show for them to fill, and I look forward to the downstairs romances blossoming next season. Can’t wait!
