Christmas flick #2

While You Were Sleeping

This is my absolute, all-time favorite movie.  There is no other film that can cheer me up when I’m down the way this does.

Lucy has no family.  Zero.  No poop in her barn.  But she sure does wish she had.  She’s got a crush on a guy who comes by her booth everyday.  When he’s injured unexpectedly one Christmas day, his family mistakes her for his fiancee, and bingo!–instant family.  Only problem is–he has a brother.  Man, I love Bill Pullman.  Come to think of it, this is his second appearance on this flick list.  And the rest of the cast is outstanding as well: Peter Boyle, Jack Warden (his second appearance on the list!), and from Mary Poppins Glynis Johns.

Obviously I adore Oscar Winner Sandra Bullock.  As far as I am concerned, her name is now legally Oscar Winner Sandra Bullock.  I love typing that!  Her performance as Lucy warms my heart.  I love her laugh and the way she shows us the hurt and tries to do what’s right but just can’t seem to till it’s too late.  I may not be an orphan, but there have been so many times I could relate to how Lucy feels.  I wish they would put out an anniversary DVD with outtakes and behind the scenes and interviews.  Dear Santa…

“Joe Jr.’s still single.”
“Yeah.  Shocker.”

One final tidbit of personal trivia for you:  Once upon a time, I was in a Directing class, which required that I film myself doing a monologue for homework.  Since I like seeing myself on camera even less than I enjoy trips to the dentist, I tried to find something that was easy to lose myself in…that I already had memorized by heart.  So naturally I played Lucy Eleanor Moderatz visiting Peter at the hospital in the middle of the night.  The footage shall never be seen.

You’re welcome, World.

I’ve seen the footage….and you were great!! Any good writer can easily switch to acting because you understand the emotion behind the words. And by the way, this is one of my favorite movies too!! I stop what I’m doing each time it’s on TV.
