Christmas flick #6

19 Dec

If you read my 2011 summer movies post, you already know the reason I watch this film.  Three words: Zooey Deschanel sings.  That, and the maple syrup.  This movie is like fruitcake on film, and unlike real fruitcake, I’m glad they made it.

Mary Steenburgen is now one of my most adored actresses of all time because she was willing to sing like an average Jane–on camera.  Someone, please, write her another check.  I also love Bob Newhart even more than I did before because he’s “big” enough to let Buddy the Elf sit on his lap.  I envy Buddy’s carb-tolerance.  But I love his innocence.  And how in spite of having his innocence bubble burst, he still chooses to love.

“Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.” ~ I Peter 4:8 (NASB)

In a world full of distrust and selfishness, this movie warms my heart and brings me Christmas cheer.  It doesn’t have to be about Jesus to remind me how Jesus wants us to treat one another…all year ’round.
